Station Road

Beautiful Battle’s origins began in Autumn 2004 when a resident suggested planting 3000 daffodil bulbs.  Tony funded a plan which, with local help, he executed with military precision.  Station Road in Battle was selected to be the first beneficiary of the “Beautiful Battle touch” to enhance a main entry to the town for visitors

Battle had been entered by the Town  Council in the RHS Britain in Bloom competition for many years. The time had come to bring in the Beautiful Battle volunteers who, with the ever increasing complexities of the competition, took on the management of the Town entry. Battle has received two silver and three silver gilt awards in the small town category of South & South East in Bloom.

Pride in the Community is key to the success of the group. The voluntary team helps towards enhancing, and maintaining the environmental quality of Battle.  It does this by taking a lead role in the seasonal planting in the centre of Battle, by creating and maintaining

gardens in public places, by keeping a watching brief on the cleanliness of the town, and where possible by use of sustainable resources in matters related to conservation.

Creating the Rainbow

Community Groups are encouraged by Beautiful Battle to participate.  Some, such as 1st Battle Rainbows, and Battle Choral Society have their own area in the centre of Battle to maintain, whilst others in Sheltered Housing units make wonderful gardens within their living environment.

Schools have been encouraged to take up the gardening ethos. Netherfield Primary School, Claverham Community College and Plumpton College in Netherfield have each created wonderful gardens under the direction of their enthusiastic teaching staff.
