Street Collection

The sun shone on Friday for the first of a two day collection in Battle High Street in aid of Beautiful Battle.  A very commendable £465 was raised despite the collection being brought to a standstill at 11 o'clock on Saturday due to atrocious weather conditions.  Beautiful Battle would like to extend thanks to members of the public for their generous contributions, which will be put towards the Autumn planting in the town...together with necessary items such as sand and compost!

JUNE 2011

Local Craftsman put to work on Battle's Diamond Jubilee Garden.

The Diamond Jubilee Garden at Battle Ambulance Station is now taking on a look of permanency with the introduction of two chestnut arbours and seats. Richard Ely, pictured here, from Powdermill Wood, has constructed the arbours from local chestnut.  Last week he could be seen on site using the traditional lathe to hone the timber.  Beautiful Battle is keen to use local craftsmen and locally sourced materials where possible.  The paving stones were surplus to requirements and donated from The Battle Guide Headquarters at the Recreation Ground, and the garden is designed by Ann Dunk, a gardening volunteer and member of Battle Horticultural Society. A small wild flower garden has been sown on site, and chamomile will be planted through mesh between the flagstones. The shrubs, now in place, have been donated by Battle residents. The garden will peak in 12 months time to mark the Queens Diamond Jubilee in June 2012.
