BEAUTIFUL BATTLE SCARECROW FESTIVALSUMMER 2010
Following the great success of the Festival in 2009, Beautiful Battle will be running a repeat performance
in July 2010Beautiful Battle will be expanding on the range of entries to include
residents and individuals, in addition to the clubs and community groups that were invited in 2009. In
addition, the High Street businesses will be invited to take part in a Scarecrow Window Dressing Competition
during July. - The
Festival will run from 5th to 25th July, and these characters will be on display in key sites in Battle...as close to the town centre
as possible. The number of locations will be less than in 2009, and the number of scarecrows on each site
increased.....a ploy to focus on both the quantity and the quality within a limited area........whilst also reducing on potential
problems with vandalism.

Welcome Back Chris “Following our first contact with Chris Collins at the SEIB awards in 2008
he will be making his second appearance in Battle on March 25th 2010.Chris’s unique and down to earth approach to everything that he does has
struck a chord in Battle and we are all looking forward to his next visit.Prior to talking to Battle residents, in the Memorial Hall at 7.00 pm, Chris will
be making a visit to Netherfield Primary School in the afternoon. Here, he will talk to the children and discuss gardening
and the environment with them. His visit is being eagerly anticipated as several of the children are Blue Peter badge holders.
Chris, of course, is a Blue Peter gardener and very much values his time with children. He will also, I am sure, captivate his evening audience who will be keen to hear
more stories of his gardening exploits around the world.Tickets for the evening will be available sometime in February 2010 and notice will be posted on
this site as to where they may be purchased. We hope that a horticultural raffle will also be held during the evening”

St Mary's Church Christmas Tree Festival
Beautiful Battle volunteers put up their Christmas Tree in St Mary's church to
join over 30 other enties by local groups.
Volunteers made "Beautiful Battle baubles" to decorate their tree. To mark their successes
in the 2007 SE in Bloom competition the tree was topped by the town's certificate and a symbolic "gold" flower for
the Almonry garden. The tree was kindly donated by Jon Avery Landscapes.

On Thursday 6th September at the Battle Memorial Hall, Derrick Elwood gave

owner of the Almonry in the 1960's

for the 2008 South East in Bloom entry by Battle.

Members of Beautiful Battle manned a stall at the Farmers Market on
Saturday 19th May 2007 to explain what we do and enlist more volunteers. The event enabled us to reach regular visitors to
the Market from neighbouring areas that fall outside those households who received a leaflet recently via the Battle
