For many years the Battle Town Council has entered the annual South & South East in Bloom competition currently sponsored
by Southern Water. This year the Town Council agreed to delegate the task to the voluntary group Beautiful Battle, to
organise and manage the town's entry in the "Small Town" category.
Because of the constraints on the Town Council's financial resources Beautiful Battle also raises the majority of
the funding necessary to cover the costs of new projects and the on-going maintenance of those sites. This is achieved by
raising general awareness in the town of our overall objectives, seeking sponsorship from local businesses, obtaining
grants (where available), running fund-raising events throughout the year, seeking individual cash donations and enlisting
more volunteers or seeking other "benefits in kind".
In addition Beautiful Battle supported other parts of the community and encouraged them to enter other categories. These
included four separate entries in the "Neighbourhood" category and three entries
in the "Schools" category.
Below is a summary of the achievements in the various categories in what turned out to be the most successful year
ever in Battle's history of entering this competition.
